“One of the main priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia is the uncompromising fight against drug-related crime. In this regard, law enforcement officers across the country are continuously carrying out comprehensive police and preventive measures,” said David Kiknadze, Director of the Central Criminal Police Department, at a briefing held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The ministry noted that both Georgian citizens and foreign nationals are among those detained.
“As a result of operational measures and investigative activities carried out by law enforcement officers over the past several days in Tbilisi and various regions of Georgia, 135 people have been detained on drug-related charges, 55 of whom were involved in drug trafficking in various forms.

The investigation has established that the detained individuals used various methods to distribute narcotic drugs.
Based on court rulings, law enforcement officers conducted controlled purchases of narcotic drugs several times, as well as covert audio and video recordings of the purchases.
During searches of the detainees accused of drug-related crimes, their vehicles and residences, as well as at locations indicated by them, police seized particularly large quantities of various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as evidence.
In addition, money obtained from the illegal sale of narcotic drugs, as well as illegally acquired firearms, were seized as evidence.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹, 260², 261, 263, 265¹ and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry sentences of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continues to actively identify individuals involved in drug trafficking and the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs.
